"When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor, its to enjoy each step on the way" - Wayne Dyer
Kathak:
Kathak is a beautiful classical dance style the originated from North India. The word Kathak comes from the Hindi word "Katha" which means the art of story telling. Kathak is the art of displaying different human emotions. The institution of Shivangini Dance School provided the opportunity for me to learn and master in Kathak. My dance teacher, Shiva Mathur, has been my backbone throughout my time there. Deciding to join the Shivangini Dance School has been one of the best choices i have made in my life. It not only transformed me into a beautiful kathak dancer but also into a dedicated person. The dance school required a lot of time and commitment which became one of the biggest challenge.
One of the biggest achievements that I received by learning Kathak was that I was one of the few students in the dance school who was fortunate enough to give her Kathak Pranam. A Kathak Pranam is the debut on-stage performance of a students, after undertaking years of training. It is known as a graduation performance. This performance alone requires 5 months of training and had an audience of 200. The planning of the debut show was all done by the student. Through this ceremony not only I gained Kathak skills but I also learned how to manage my time, work on different tasks at once and be completely dedicated to what I love.

I was part of a Bollywood Fusion team at The University of Texas at Austin called SAAYA. We competed in many competitions in Austin, Baylor, and Houston. Saaya focuses on four major dance styles : Hip Hop, Bhangra, Bollywood, and Kathak. Last year during April 2013, Saaya was recognized as the "Crowd Favorite" at the Taal competition hosted at UT Austin!

Miss Teen India Texas
During January 2011, I had got the wonderful opportunity to compete in a Miss Teen India Texas pageant. It was a great experience. This experience was very memorable because not only did I learn the art of walking but I also over came my fear of being on stage. It is not a easy thing to do, and even though i did not win pageant, it was definitely a learning experience for me. I had to go through three rounds: the introduction round, talent round, and the question/answer round.
